Good morning everyone!
Of course I want to start by apologizing for my tardiness. The camera I intended on using was experiencing technical difficulties so I had to switch to one with some more manageable technical problems. I am now using a Nikon D40 that refuses to focus automatically (hence a couple blurry pictures.) Disclaimers aside, I'll get started!
I was inspired to take photos of a friends orange moped as my subject by an artist whose name escapes me now. He was in Italy (I believe) and kept seeing rented orange vespas all around the city. He decided to rent one himself and went around parking it next to other orange vespas and photographing them like a tourist couple. The set of photos all together became an interesting and lighthearted narrative.
I chose this image as my favorite because I loved the way the lighting really emphasizes the dusting of snow on the right side. The color on the left of the moped is also a beautiful and intense contrast the the muted backdrop. Although compositionally I usually cringe at near symmetrical, centered images, I think this one works just fine. I may play around with cropping it to see if I can  get it to really impress me.
This photo I loved though all I can think of is that I wish I had crouched lower to the grown and gotten a more extreme angle on it as opposed to a birds eye view. I may have been able to include some of the deeper orange in that way as well. I was really glad I was able to capture the interesting lines at the back of the moped though, which may have been lost at another angle.
And here are the others! some are blurry, others oddly framed or just uninteresting.

  1. Anneke,
I love the color of the orange bike next to the leaves. I agree with your two choices because of the angles that they were shot.

  2. Anneke,

What I liked about the photo that you chose as your favorite was the contrast between the bike and it's environment. I also liked the image of the rocks and the orange leaves that compliment the bike. Good Job!
